Overview

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), commonly known as Detroit Metro Airport, is a major international airport serving Detroit, Southeast Michigan, and nearby communities in Ohio and Ontario, Canada. Located in Romulus, Michigan, approximately 18 miles (29 km) southwest of downtown Detroit, the airport is Michigan’s busiest airport and a major gateway between the United States and Canada.
Opened in 1930, DTW has grown into a large aviation hub covering approximately 4,850 acres. The airport has two passenger terminals—the Edward H. McNamara Terminal and the Warren Cleage Evans Terminal—with more than 150 gates and six runways. McNamara Terminal serves Delta Air Lines and its SkyTeam partners, while Evans Terminal serves many other domestic and international airlines.
Detroit Metro is particularly important to Delta Air Lines, which operates the airport as its second-largest hub. The airport offers nonstop service to destinations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. International destinations include Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, and Rome.
The airport is also known for its modern facilities, including the ExpressTram people mover, extensive moving walkways, restaurants and shops, airline lounges, and the colorful Light Tunnel connecting sections of the McNamara Terminal. With more than 32 million passengers annually, DTW plays a major role in the transportation and economy of the Detroit metropolitan region.
