Come See a Show at these Wayne County Music Venues

Metro Detroit is known for its music, and you never know when you might catch the next big name playing at a bar in the area. Summer also means the arrival of outdoor tunes after months of being inside. If you’re looking to check out a show in metro Detroit, here are some of the best places to see some music in Wayne County.
Small’s Bar in Hamtramck
Small’s has been named one of the best live music venues and best rock clubs in the country for more than a decade in Hamtramck.
The bar has shows throughout the week, with an updated calendar on their website.
New Dodge Lounge in Hamtramck
Another great music venue in Hamtramck, just north of Detroit, New Dodge Lounge is a neighborhood bar that is also a live music venue.
The show has rotating events with comedy and karaoke on Tuesday, art pop-ups on Thursday, and then live music on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Trixie’s Bar in Hamtramck
Described on social media as a “super chill music venue and bar,” Trixie’s in Hamtramck has different bands playing at the venue on the weekends.
The bar also has a bring your own vinyl event every Wednesday where you can perform a 30-minute set on the mixing table and open mic comedy on Tuesdays.
District 142 in Wyandotte
District 142 is a brand-new music venue in Wyandotte, about 30 minutes south of Detroit. The live music and event venue has shows throughout the week in a variety of genres.
The District 142 website has shows scheduled throughout the year from smaller bands and tribute bands to some larger, nationally-known bands.
Smuggler’s Run in Wyandotte
Right on the Detroit River in the northern part of Wyandotte, Smuggler’s Run is in an old marina that has live music inside and outside.
It’s a tiki bar with a massive outdoor yard along the river with views of the Detroit skyline. They have live music every weekend, with larger acts like Puddle of Mudd, Quiet Riot and more set to play.
Sean O’Callaghan’s in Plymouth
Right in the heart of Downtown Plymouth, Sean O’Callaghan’s will make you feel like you’ve been transported back to the Emerald Isle.
The bar has a full food and drink menu, and has live music on the weekends from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Michigan Jazz Festival in Livonia
The festival has five different stages for jazz and cabaret, with shows scheduled almost every hour from different bands and artists.
It takes place on the campus of Schoolcraft College in Linovia, and admission to the festival is free.
Canton Summer Concert Series
Heritage Park in Canton is the home of the summer concert series in Canton, that has shows during the week for all ages.
There are concerts on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every week starting in July.
Then, there are Thursday night concerts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. starting at the end of June. The Thursday concert series will also have at least three food options and a beer and wine tent.
Detroit Venues
There are also plenty of places throughout the City of Detroit where you can catch live music of both big acts and small acts.
Many people know about the larger venues in the city – the arenas and theatres like The Fox, the Fillmore, St. Andrew’s Hall, The Masonic Temple, The Shelter and more.
However, there are also many smaller spots to take in shows throughout the city. You can catch jazz at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, Aretha’s Jazz Cafe, Willis Show Bar or Cliff Bell’s. There are also smaller acts that perform at places like The Magic Stick, The Majestic, El Club.
Plenty of Detroit bars have live music as well. They include Tin Roof, Motor City Wine with its outdoor patio concerts, Cafe D’Mongos, Deluxx Fluxx and more.
