October 15, 2025 (DETROIT, MICHIGAN) —
Salonnière and Visit Detroit are proud to announce a partnership to support DETROIT SALON™, the city’s inaugural landmark global contemporary art event and exhibitions platform.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to uplifting Detroit’s vibrant arts ecosystem on a national and global stage.
The announcement of DETROIT SALON follows more than three years of research, community engagement, and program development. DETROIT SALON will connect the region’s artists with international audiences and opportunities through a multiyear program of exhibitions and activations, culminating in a flagship citywide event in Detroit in 2028.
Visit Detroit will work closely with Salonnière to promote the Detroit region locally, nationally and internationally as an emerging global arts hub and to welcome global visitors, curators, collectors, artists and cultural institutions to Detroit to elevate the city’s creative contributions in the broader art world.
The mission of Visit Detroit is to market and sell the Detroit metropolitan region to business and leisure visitors in order to maximize economic impact. In collaboration with its partners, stakeholders and customers, Visit Detroit’s purpose is to champion the continuous improvement of the region as a dynamic and memorable tourism destination.
The mission of Salonniere is to introduce and advocate for traditionally underrepresented voices in art and culture through global partnerships, projects, exhibitions and cultural programs.
Developed by Detroit-based cultural organization Salonnière in collaboration with the State of Michigan, Visit Detroit, CultureSource, University of Michigan Arts Initiative, TechTown and Michigan cultural and community-based partners, DETROIT SALON is a multi-year contemporary arts initiative dedicated to connecting Detroit and the broader art world and positioning Detroit as a global arts hub. This initiative will kick off its international Detroit art roadshow in Paris in fall 2025 with a slate of high-profile exhibitions and activations at Art Basel, one of the world’s premier art shows for Modern and contemporary art; Palais de Tokyo, France’s leading contemporary art institution and the largest contemporary arts institution in Europe; and Hôtel de Talleyrand, a historic U.S. diplomatic building. In the years that follow, DETROIT SALON will travel to global art hubs, from Basel to London and Hong Kong and Marrakech, before the flagship event in Detroit in 2028. The initiative is also partnering with the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, the first and only international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and the African diaspora. Year-round community programming will also take place locally at the new Art House headquarters in Detroit’s historic Paradise Valley.
“DETROIT SALON is rooted in the creative spirit of this city and built to serve it,” said Julie Egan, founder of Salonnière. “The world knows our cars, our music and our design; it's time for the world to get to know our brilliant contemporary arts community too. DETROIT SALON is about making a long-term investment in Detroit’s artists and cultural workers, and positioning them where they deserve to be: on the global stage. By pairing international reach with local grassroots engagement, Salonnière and Visit Detroit hope to honor a long legacy of artistic excellence in Detroit and invite the world to re-experience Detroit as a place of bold creativity, collaboration, and cultural leadership.”
“Detroit has an authentic and unique arts culture that continues to evolve,” said Claude Molinari, President & CEO, Visit Detroit. “We’re excited to partner with Salonnière to elevate our region’s presence in the global arts community. DETROIT SALON offers a bold new platform to celebrate and promote our destination for world class art and events.”
