DETROIT – Visit Detroit is proud to announce the debut of two new content series that will elevate Detroit’s momentous culinary scene. “Detroit Dines Different” recently debuted across the Visit Detroit and Hospitality Included social media platforms, while “Detroit Serves” – featuring local, renowned chef, creator and author Jon Kung – premiered on June 24, exclusively on Visit Detroit’s YouTube channel.
Both content series will amplify Detroit’s status as a culinary destination, which received recognition in the MICHELIN Guide American Great Lakes edition, announced in April. The distinction positions Detroit to be considered for a Michelin Star restaurant pending the selection process.
"Detroit's culinary scene is experiencing incredible momentum, earning national recognition for its creativity, authenticity and diversity,” said Stan Smith, Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Visit Detroit. “From award-winning chefs and celebrated restaurants to beloved neighborhood institutions and global flavors, our region has become one of the most exciting food destinations in North America.
“These new content series will help us tell that story in a deeper and more engaging way, shining a spotlight on the talented people, unique culinary traditions and innovative dining experiences that continue to define Detroit's food culture. As more travelers seek authentic experiences through food, we're proud to showcase the chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality professionals who are helping elevate Detroit’s status as a world-class culinary destination."
Detroit Dines Different launched on June 18 and is a six-part short-form series exploring the people, systems, stories and labor behind the way the city of Detroit eats. The bi-weekly episodes can be found on the Visit Detroit and Hospitality Included social media platforms.
Episode 1 of Detroit Dines Different documents the region’s diverse cuisine as a migration city, from Downtown Detroit to Detroit’s North End. Featured restaurants in the debut episode include Ladders 4 Wine Bar, Baobob Fare, Vecino, Good Cakes and Bakes and Leila.
The 2026 Hospitality Included Festival, showcasing Detroit’s culinary ecosystem, brings together restaurants, pop-ups, artists and neighborhood organizations. The 2026 event will be hosted on Sunday, August 16 at Detroit People’s Food Co-Op (8324 Woodward Ave. in Detroit). Tickets are available for purchase at hospincluded.com.
Detroit Serves, featuring Chef Kung, is a monthly, four-episode YouTube-exclusive culinary travel series that premiered on July 1. The show takes viewers through Detroit’s food neighborhoods one route at a time, utilizing restaurants, chefs, movement throughout the city, and Kung’s perspective to spotlight Detroit as a culinary destination worth traveling for. Each episode will be 20 minutes in length, and feature three restaurants within a single neighborhood or corridor.
"The things I learned working in Detroit’s culinary industry was the foundation for all the success I have now as a food creator and cookbook author,” said Chef Jon Kung, chef, content creator, cookbook author and host of Detroit Serves. “I’ve also had the privilege of watching so many of my friends thrive in this city, starting from the most humble beginnings, now making their marks as creative and entrepreneurial pillars of our community. Their stories are inspiring, varied, historic, and delicious and a lot of them — like me — owe a lot of their opportunity to this glorious city. It is my privilege to celebrate their stories and their craft, something that’s been long overdue."
Kung is a nationally recognized culinary personality with Detroit roots. He sits at the intersection of food, culture, digital media, entrepreneurship, and Detroit's growing culinary reputation. He has more than 2 million followers across social media platforms, and his debut cookbook, Kung Food, was released in 2023. It received national attention for reexamining Chinese American cuisine through the lens of his experiences living in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Toronto, and Detroit.
