Overview
Set for Saturday, May 24, the festival brings together DJs, artists, creatives, and music lovers for a day and evening rooted in Detroit energy, while highlighting the extended cultural network that connects the city to other places and people shaped by its sound, style, and sensibility.
This year’s lineup reflects that vision, featuring artists with ties to Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, and beyond. Featured talent includes DJ Burning Bush (Detroit), Jessica Care Moore / DJ J Sicka (Detroit), Nate the Barber (Pittsburgh), Drake Phifer (Detroit), Cleveland Brown (Cleveland), Sean Alvarez (Chicago), DJ Righteous (Chicago/Detroit), DJ Salah Ananse (Atlanta), Diviniti (Detroit), Reggie Dokes (Detroit), DJ J'Mp (Detroit/St. Louis), Rhonda Welsh (Detroit), Adrian Loving (Washington, D.C.), and DJ Scandalous.
More than a festival, Detroit Diaspora Day Fest is a cultural statement — one that recognizes Detroit as a generator of sound, style, movement, and influence far beyond city limits. It celebrates both those who are from Detroit and those who remain connected to its creative and cultural legacy from wherever they are.
“Detroit Diaspora Day Fest is about the reach of Detroit,” says founder drake phifer. “It’s about the people, the music, the style, and the energy that started here but never stayed in one place.”
Now in its eighth year, the festival continues to grow as a signature gathering for people who understand Detroit not just as a hometown, but as a living cultural force. Detroit Diaspora Day Fest exists to honor that truth — and to give it a soundtrack.it not just as a location, but as a living cultural force.
