Detroit Month of Design is an annual citywide celebration of creativity that calls upon designers and the greater Detroit community to come together and celebrate the city’s role as an international design capital.
This year's festival will host over 100 events and experiences that can be enjoyed in open-air spaces, indoors, on-demand, and virtually. See all events and installations here.
Created by Design Core, Detroit Month of Design salutes the fact that our city is the first and only UNESCO City of Design in the U.S.
They note that Detroit is "recognized for its deep-rooted design legacy and innovative spirit. Through global exchange programs, talent showcases, and sustainability initiatives, Detroit’s design community with the world, reinforcing our city's reputation as a center for creative excellence."
Launched in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) highlights cities that leverage their cultural assets and creative sectors—spanning fields like architecture, interior design, fashion, urban planning, and industrial design—to foster economic and social growth. Cities chosen as a "City of Design" commit to sharing best practices, supporting local creators, and integrating sustainable design strategies into everyday civic life.
