Overview
Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light turn folk and bluegrass into story-rich songs about history, folklore and women too often left out of the record. Sumner’s “Radium Girls (Curie Eleison)” brings the story of the women who painted luminous watch dials to life, while the trio’s close harmonies and acoustic instrumentation frame her sharp, finely detailed songwriting. The group won the 2025 Telluride Bluegrass Band Contest, and five of Sumner’s original songs are preserved in the Library of Congress’s American Folklife Center archives.
