Tee Time: Top Local Golf Courses & Golf Clubs in Detroit

Photos by Heidi Tiano

Detroit is a die-hard sports town through and through, and in the warmer months — actually, in nearly any snowless month — locals are known to ditch work early for an afternoon tee time.

Next time you’re in town for business or pleasure, plan to take a swing on one of the impeccably-kept golf courses in metro Detroit. We’ve included our favorites on the list below.

Staying in the city? If you don’t have time to venture out of the downtown area, improvise by taking a few practice or virtual swings right in the heart of Detroit.

  • Belle Isle Golf Range (Detroit)
    Driving range/practice only
  • Honorable mention: Topgolf Swing Suite
Can’t get out for a real round? Bring your group to the Topgolf Swing Suite inside the MGM Grand Casino for a virtual experience in a plush lounge setting.

It may feel more like northern Michigan than metro Detroit when you’re on a fairway in Oakland County. The drive from the city is well worth the experience.

The heavily residential county north of Detroit boasts a wide range of courses. The farther north you get, the more picturesque they become.

A short drive from the bustle of downtown Detroit will get you out on a tee box in no time.

Note: Campus Martius Park, often touted as the heart of Detroit, was used to calculate mileage form the downtown area to each of the golf courses.
