Located on the Detroit RiverWalk, Wheelhouse Detroit offers bike rentals, tours, retail and service for those wanting to “experience the Motor City on two wheels”:
Rentals
From simple and deluxe cruisers to sport and comfy hybrids to kids BMX and even adult tricycles, Wheelhouse Detroit has quite the variety of rental options to really make the biking experience great for any age and any skill level. Adult rentals start at $15 for two hours, but long-term rental options are available, too, at special rates. Helmets and locks are included at no extra charge, and accessories for the little ones, including tag-a-longs and baby seats, can also be rented. Check out Wheelhouse Detroit’s rental page for more information, including images of bike rental options.
Tours
According to Wheelhouse Detroit, “Cyclists of all abilities are welcome here.” Designed to be “informative, safe and fun,” Wheelhouse’s guided tours explore various Detroit neighborhoods and themes. In addition to a guide, each tour also brings along a “trained sweeper,” someone who will not only keep the up-to-15-person group together but can fix any mechanical issues that might arise. Visit Wheelhouse Detroit’s tour list to see its full range of upcoming tour offerings.
Retail
Looking to purchase your own bike? Wheelhouse sells a variety of brands including Detroit Bikes, Kona, Haro, Origin8, Opus and Brooklyn Bicycle Co, and special orders for each brand are definitely a possibility. For current availability, visit Wheelhouse Detroit’s bike selection page. Each bike sale comes with a complimentary tune-up, as well as a bottle cage and water bottle. Oh, and gift certificates, accessories and “goodies” are also available for purchase!
Service
Don’t let a flat tire stop you from biking The D; Wheelhouse has quite the (affordable) service menu. Having trouble getting your bike to Wheelhouse? No problem! Pick-up and drop-off options exist!
