Second Baptist Church
The oldest African-American church in the Midwest, Second Baptist Church is not only a great place for worship but also to learn about the Detroit underground railroad. The church served as the last stop for travelers before escaping into Canada. Second Baptist was created by 13 former slaves in 1836 and the current building was erected in 1914. Historic Trinity Lutheran Church
Serving the Lord for 169 years, Historic Holy Trinity Church was built with the finest craftmanship and materials mimicking the great cathedrals of 16th century Europe. Gaze above to view the splendid azure and crimson murals on the ceiling framed by rich, dark wood or marvel at the ornate, jewel colored glass windows. Around Christmas, multiple glowing trees light the interior along with over 260 creches from around the world, over 90 nutcrackers, and a multitude of angels and during the summer is the Freedom Festival to thank God for the many freedoms he gave.
Old St. Mary’s
The first German church in Detroit, Old St. Mary’s was once known as the “Church of the Grottos.” Within are located three most holy sanctuaries, the first highlighting Jesus in the Garden of Olives, the second displaying John the Baptist baptizing Christ in the Jordan River, and the last, a gorgeous replica of the famous French Shrine, the Lourdes Grotto. St. Florian Roman Catholic Church
Nestled in Hamtramck, St. Florian Catholic Church was founded by Rev. Bernard Zmijewski a Polish immigrant who inspired his blue-collar factory worker congregation to raise half a million dollars before the Depression to build the new church. The massive structure rises eight stories to the heavens and sports a huge Gothic arch bordered by two intricate spires. St. Florian provides a secure, heavenly place of worship for its multi-national parishioners.
St. Joseph Oratory Catholic Church
With its resplendent gold altar surrounded by divine murals, St. Joseph is a magnificent Victorian Gothic edifice located near the Eastern Market. It brings traditional Latin masses and liturgical lessons to its active parish. Last year, the church celebrated its 150th anniversary and continues with its historic renovations.
Basilica of Ste. Anne De Detroit
Founded in 1701, Basilica of Ste. Anne is the second oldest operating Catholic parish in the United States. Its first structure was a tiny chapel in Fort Ponchartrain du Detroit built with the help of two priests. The current basilica with its extraordinary architecture houses a shrine and active parish in the multi-ethnic, bilingual neighborhood in southwest Detroit.
Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue
A long standing iconic building in downtown Detroit, Isaac Agree Synagogue just reopened in 2023 after a $5.75 million dollar makeover. The synagogue with its splendid new interior, offers weekly Sabbath services, as well as High Holiday services that attract hundreds of worshippers.
Reconstructionist Congregation of Detroit
One of the newest synagogues in the city, Reconstructionist Congregation had their first Shabbat service in May of 2000. Located downtown, the congregation is egalitarian and men and women have equal rights. The synagogue is committed to helping individuals create their own pathway to a meaningful Jewish life.
Muslim Center Mosque and Community Center
Located on the westside of Detroit, Muslim Center is an active mosque which caters to family and creates an active community life for its worshippers. Muslim Center hosts multiple programs and welcomes new members to salat and special events throughout the year. The mosque has a dynamic outreach ministry that connects to non-Muslim neighbors for the betterment of the community.
Islamic Center of America
Located in Dearborn, the Islamic Center is a huge mosque of 120,000 sq. feet that offers an immense meeting hall, a divine prayer room, and a library. The exterior has a glazed brick veneer and two 110 minarets rise toward the heavens and keep guard. Join Imam Ahmad Hammoud in-person or online every Thursday after Isha prayer for his great sermons followed by Dua Kumayl.
Iskcon Detroit
Located in the historic Fisher Mansion, Iskcon Detroit offers daily Aarti and Darshan, and many wonderful activities including Bhakti Vriksha sessions, a Sunday feast, Yoga at the Mansion, and Temple Tours. There are also weekend retreats to discover yourself and find your purpose through self-realization.

Created for all Hindu faiths, Durga Temple offers a lively atmosphere to worship together. With its colorful draped interior and its walls adorned with beautiful sculptures of Hindu deities, the temple offers a variety of other services from regular puja to celebration of festivals such as Diwali.
