6 New and Popular Detroit Restaurants

Story by Danielle Alexander | Photos by Ima, Grey Ghost

As you’ve probably noticed, Detroit’s food scene has erupted these past few years, so much that it’s actually quite difficult to stay on top of the latest and hottest dining destinations in the city.

If you’re looking for something different to try, take a peak at these seven (of many!) new restaurants in The D:

Detroit's Hottest Restaurants

1. Apparatus Room

Chef Lents of the Apparatus Room hopes to bring “fuller bellies and fuller futures” through both his cooking, as well as his teachings to other chefs. With brunch, lunch and dinner menus, Apparatus Room has quite the array of dining options.

2. Grey Ghost Detroit

Named after the notorious rum running pirate on the Detroit River during the prohibition era, Grey Ghost is committed to “the art of butchery, refinement of crafting cocktails and unparalleled hospitality.” Its menu is separated into six categories: cured, raw, not meat, meat, sides and desserts. Located on East Watson, Grey Ghost opens at 4 p.m. daily and even offers brunch on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit the reservations tab on Grey Ghost Detroit’s website to “Find a Table” for you and your friends.

3. Ima

Ima tell you three reasons to check out Ima on Michigan Avenue: jicama shell tacos, spicy pork udon and warm sake. Interested? If you love signature noodle soups, rice bowls, curries and small plates, this modern Japanese noodle shop in Corktown will not disappoint. Click here to view Ima’s menu, which you can indulge in Tuesday through Sunday every week.

4. Lady of the House

A resident of Bagley Street, another popular restaurant in Corktown is Lady of the House, which is known for its “emphasis on freshness and creativity,” as well as its “strong commitment to community sourcing and support of Michigan farms.” Lady of the House is open Wednesday through Sunday, and online reservations are always an option.

5. Parc

In 2016, a restaurant popped up in Campus Martius Park, Detroit’s popular gathering place. Known for its Nanaglass window walls, which provide guests with clear, 270-degree views of The D, Parc wants to be your place to “meet family and friends, clients and colleagues and interesting people from all over the world.” Click here for Parc’s Dine + Drink menu.

6. Takoi

Whether you come for the brightly decorated dining room, Thai fusion plates or craft cocktails, you will leave Takoi very happy. Beginning as a food truck and later a pop-up, Takoi has found its permanent home on Michigan Avenue.
