Take 5 | Deveri and Jason

When you spend a day in Metro Detroit with out-of-towners, where do you take them? Why?
Deveri and Jason, Owners of Brooklyn Street Local
“Everyone is familiar with Motown songs and artists, but so many people don’t know where it started. Motown Museum is a great place for people to connect something they know with the city and learn about its history. And you get to sing and dance.
John King Books is a wonderland for anyone who likes to read. It is five floors packed with books, and the staff is almost unbelievably knowledgeable. We don’t know how they remember where everything is. It is a place to discover things you didn’t know you wanted.
We always take people to PJ’s Lager House. They are our friends and neighbors, and they’ve got great music, great food, great staff and cheap beer — what more could you want?
One of our favorite ways to spend an afternoon is walking the Dequindre Cut — The Cut — to Eastern Market, stopping for lunch and a beer there before heading back to the riverfront. An outdoor path, The Cut showcases many of Detroit’s street artists and is a meeting of the urban and the natural — one of the things we love and think is unique to Detroit.”
