Overview
The Detroit Film Theatre (DFT) is the film program and cinema of the Detroit Institute of Arts, presenting a wide range of independent, international, classic, documentary, and contemporary films. Located within the DIA, the DFT provides visitors with an opportunity to experience cinema alongside the museum’s extensive collection of visual art.
The theatre is known for showcasing films that might not otherwise receive broad theatrical exposure, including foreign-language films, independent productions, documentaries, repertory classics, and award-season releases. Its programming complements the DIA’s mission of bringing people together through art and culture.
The DFT also hosts special screenings, filmmaker appearances, discussions, and other film-related programs, making it an important cultural venue in Detroit for both moviegoers and arts audiences.
