Holiday Celebrations in Metro Detroit
Kick off the holiday season in style at Detroit's Tree Lighting ceremony!
The annual Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony is a beloved tradition that kicks off the holiday season in the Motor City. Thousands of people gather in Campus Martius Park to witness the lighting of a towering tree, and live music performances. The event is free to attend and open to all, with plenty of food and beverage options available from local vendors. Whether you're a Detroit local or just visiting, the tree lighting is a magical way to experience the holiday spirit in Detroit. Don't miss out on this unforgettable celebration!
Mark your calendars for the Detroit Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 23, at the award-winning Campus Martius Park presented by Downtown Detroit Partnership and DTE Energy Foundation. “Merry & Bright: 20 Years of Holiday Lights” — the 20th-anniversary special edition of this free annual Detroit event to kick off the holiday season — will feature stellar performances by Olympic figure skaters, the best skaters in metro Detroit, and live musical acts, holiday shopping, food trucks, unique lighting attractions across the downtown and more!
The Detroit tradition will center around a Michigan-grown Norway spruce decked with ornaments and illuminated by thousands of shimmering LED multi-colored lights – after a countdown by Santa. WXYZ-TV Channel 7 will also once again serve as the official broadcast station of the annual Detroit Tree Lighting ceremony, broadcasting complete coverage of the event during a one-hour live special, “Light Up the Season,” beginning at 7 p.m.
