Story by Max White
Summer is the season for rooftops, and in metro Detroit, there are plenty of places to take in great views and enjoy good food and drinks. From cozy rooftops on the second floor, to ones at the top of hotels in the heart of Downtown Detroit, you'll find a variety of restaurants offering rooftop seating to suit your preferences.
Tin Roof
If you’re looking for good food, great music and incredible views, Tin Roof is the spot for you!
Located right across the street from Comerica Park in the heart of the District Detroit, the bar and restaurant has three levels and a rooftop overlooking Downtown Detroit, and features live music almost every day.
Their slogan is “where everybody is somebody,” and throughout the summer they are also hosting “Nashville hits the roof” concert series.
Make sure to try the street corn quesadilla or the Nashville hot chicken sandwich while you’re there. If you’re looking for brunch, they also have burritos, burgers and chicken & donuts available.
Motor City Brewing Works
If Tin Roof isn't your vibe, head over to Motor City Brewing Works in Midtown’s Cass Corridor for a relaxing and quiet atmosphere in a vibrant part of the city.
The brewery has been operating in Detroit for nearly 30 years, and their Midtown location has a great rooftop patio on top of the one-story building. It features different tables and chairs, and even some comfy furniture for you to kick back and enjoy their delicious beers.
Make sure to get some of their delicious, homemade pizza with some of the best dough you’ll find in Detroit, and don't forget to try their famous Ghettoblaster.
Atwater Beer Co.
For another fantastic rooftop experience, head to Atwater Beer Co. near Rivertown.
Their Biergarten features a second bar on top of the roof, where you can grab a Dirty Blonde, a Vanilla Java Porter or a Whango and soak up the sun. Grab one of their delicious brats while you’re there, or try the Michigan salad which is perfect on a hot summer day.
