Are you taking that special someone out for a romantic date in downtown Detroit? Look no further than this list of the top-notch eateries to set the mood.

Downtown Detroit Romantic Restaurants

Prime + Proper

One of the newer restaurants on Detroit’s scene is Prime and ProperLocated in the city’s new hot spot, Capitol Park, this restaurant is an interpretation of the American steakhouse, with impeccable attention to detail and an in-house butcher. If weather permits, the most romantic spot at this restaurant is on the patio. Trust us.

The Whitney

The Whitney is located in a historic 1890s mansion in the heart of Midtown and Detroit’s cultural center, making it the perfect stop after a trip to one of Detroit’s world-class museums, or before a performance at a nearby theater. The classic American cuisine, extensive wine list and stunning setting make the Whitney a classic choice for a romantic dinner for two. And if you’re not ready to leave after dinner, head upstairs for a drink at the third floor Ghost Bar.

San Morello

The brainchild of chef Andrew Carmellini, this gourmet Italian restaurant sits right on Woodward Avenue in the ultra-luxurious Shinola Hotel. With house-made pasta and wood-fired dishes, you will feel like you are in Italy while you’re here. Be sure to pop over into Evening Bar after dinner for a double hit of romance.

Vertical Detroit

Vertical Detroit is a wine bar and wine shop hybrid located on a quiet street in downtown Detroit. With a beautiful patio in the summer months and a warm, cozy atmosphere inside year-round, any day is the perfect day for some romance at Vertical. Sit near the bar to see black and white movies projected onto the wall while you sip on wines from around the world.

London Chop House

The historic London Chop House reopened last year with all the nostalgic fixtures still intact, including the long oak bar, circular red leather booths and working, built-in telephone booths. Located in the downtown business district, the London Chop House was once a hotspot for striking important business deals. Now the wood-paneled walls create a warm, leisurely atmosphere that transports you to another time.

Mario’s

Right in the center of Detroit’s theater district, Mario’s is the perfect place to stop for dinner before a show. Mario’s has been a staple in Detroit since 1948 and retains the traditions of an Italian supper club with tableside cooking and ballroom dancing on the weekends.

Andiamo

Andiamo has nine restaurants around metro Detroit, but it’s the Detroit Riverfront location inside the GM Renaissance Center Wintergarden that combines Andiamo’s authentic northern Italian cuisine with a fabulous view of downtown.

Other fine dining in Detroit:

If you’re looking for more great seafood, the Harbor Grille Bistro in Macray Harbor on Lake St. Clair is known for its selection and ambiance. For a steakhouse with elegant surroundings, try Flemings’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Meriwether’s, Cameron’s or Morton’s Steakhouse. Wolfgang Puck Steak at MGM Grand is also a must.
