Hot Spots | Art Galleries
Modified: July 07, 2022Colors brushed on canvas, metal manipulated, clay caressed and fired to a finish. We’re giving a call out to metro Detroit’s art galleries with a funkier frame of mind.
Red Bull House of Art
This live-in residency provides international visual artists the freedom and space to yield to their craft. The public gets to view their creativity during special exhibitions. Stop by on Nov. 17 for the art house’s “Residency 3” exhibition, a compilation of the work of artists Julie Schenkelberg, Judith Supine and Lucien Shapiro.
River’s Edge Gallery
See a plethora of work from local and regional artists, some who have been represented by the gallery for more than a decade. The artwork ranges from painting and photography to sculpture and everything in between. With monthly exhibits and creative displays, it’s worth going to River’s Edge a few times a year.
Northville Art House
This funky little house in downtown Northville is making a big impact on the region’s art scene. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the nonprofit has grown to feature exhibits by prominent artists; host classes, workshops and kids’ camps; and stock a great gift shop full of one-of-a-kind, handmade treasures. Every room is a wonder.
Gonzo Art Studio
This laid-back art studio doubles as a space for live music performances, poetry readings and community events. Owner Ed Stross creates art with an urban edge in a variety of mediums and leads budget-friendly Paint and Sip nights. For three decades, Gonzo has been known for its evolving building mural. Hours are by appointment.
Village Fine Art Gallery
Five years strong and going, this gallery showcases 40 local artists, where the art is all handmade and the artists themselves work double time as the gallery staff.
